Toy Trains is a VR game whose production timeline was 01.2023 to 02.2024 with a production budget of 4M PLN. The main premise of the game was to create an experience of reliving the childhood moment of receiving the toy train set as a Christmas present. The game is a cute, heartwarming puzzler with unique and responsive gameplay. The UX of the game was done in a very diegetic way, making every UI element an object in the world of the game, creating a very immersive experience.

What I've contributed to?
This game was a side project that was running in parallel to the production of our main game - Harpagun. Also, this was my first serious game that I've worked on. In the first three months of production, I was the only member of the Art Team on this project. During this time, I created the main vibe of the game, and after that second person on the team joined me to fill out the game with the rest of the assets. During the production of this game, I created 3d and 2d assets, co-designed diegetic UI elements, and created concept arts for the other member of the team.

Our biggest challenges
This project’s main difficulty was optimization for our main platform - Meta Quest 2. The main chip architecture has many limitations that modern PC games don’t have to worry about. Among the long list of our optimization concerns were expensive transparency, very limited draw call budget, no instancing, no depth mapping, and tight texture and vertex amount budget. I’ve managed to optimize textures in such a way that about 90% of the elements in the game were put onto 3 atlases, which had a lot of room to spare.
